New Scooter

I picked up a new dirt scooter a couple weeks ago. Story is this guy has a samurai he was driving around til his GF (obviously ex now) slashed the tires and a few hoses and vacuum lines under his hood. It had an 8v 1600 with a TT wiring harness, power steering, header, SPOA, but it was not really put together right. Plus it was rolled.

My brothers buddy found this deal and the guy only had til midnight that night to get them gone. We went there and I spent 4 hours getting them both running and we drove them home for $400 for both.

Since he found the deal, Harvey got the rolled one with the 1.6 in it, and I got the guys parts vehicle, which was only wrecked in the front. Unfortunately the frame got tweaked as hell and the front clip is all messed up, but for $200, I'm gonna wheel it like a $200 escort. haha!

Without further adieu, my new scooter.

So the plan will be.......
Take the front clip off of my Tin Top

Plus the axles, rear YJ's, front ruf, and OTT steering.

I already have a hybrid rear with 5.12's and the front is trussed with 5.12's and they both have spartan lockers. And I have a 4.9:1 T-case.
Basically all I need to make this thing awesome, is a mighty kong and shocks.

Plus I'm gonna be running these tires.

Today though, mission is to replace the front clip.

As for my Shu Boks, after I get these axles out, and I get a job, I will SPOA the axles under my scooter and stick them in there with the stock springs and make the Shu Boks my DD dune hopper with a 16v.

Pushed it off til today to help Oregonboy with his rig.

Off with the smashed clip.

New clip. The frame is bent so it wasn't wanting to line right up. But Oh well, frame being bent isn't gonna keep this thing from a life on 2 wheels and maybe someday a firewall buggy. Ha!

More to come as soon as possible. Hoping to either take this to the dunes as is next month or have it on my 5.12 axles and my 32's for the dunes. Then 35's and a 4.9 t-case. ;)

To pad my own thread. Again...

I call it the scooter now for lack of better name. As soon as it is upgraded, it might carry the name of Krooked ______ since it has the windshield frame (basically the heart) from my original Krooked rig. Kinda sentimental to this windshield frame for some odd reason.

So I got it done, but here is a tip.

I enlarged the hub bolts to 10mm and got rid of the accorn washers.

First you drill the existing holes out to 11/32", then use a 10mm x 1.25 tap and tap all the holes.

They take a special bolt that came off the sidekick. It's the only one that will work for this other than maybe a socket head (hex) 12.9 grade bolt.
Difference between the old and new.

Now, I got these hubs off a samurai that I would guess was NEVER put in 4wd.
THIS is how the hubs need to look. Greasing the hubs will cause hydrolic suction and thus causing the hubs to either stay unlocked, or stay locked. THIS is how much grease you put in there.

And my little scooter all grown up!

I don't know if it's earned the title of Krooked yet.

Wondering right now what to paint it. I like the blue that is on the back and doors, but the girlfriend doesn't because it reminds her too much of my old black rig I rolled. She got more freaked out than I did, it was just a roll to me and she thought I died.. Ha

She thinks OD green would be cool and I kinda agree.

Awesome color too. Problem is I don't feel like spending $500 on paint and the time to sand my whole body when I just wanna go out and lay it on it's side and keep driving. ha

Cheap paint. like $30 in paint.

BTW I just spent the last 4 hours placing and installing rock lights. I did some cool stuff too. If it works good I'll share what I did ...

Well it used to scoot and you could basically push it with your foot out the door. Much different now.

Yesterday and today I've been installing rock lights. There are small detailed things that are just cool within the whole install, including using the stock 40k mileage trip switch that I converted to use as the rock light switch, and 4 of the 5 lights are installed like I've never seen anyone do before. It's too hot to spend too much time out there, but I did get one picture of something I did that I thought was cool.

EDIT: This isn't how it looks now. There is a relay where that bare metal is, and the wires are nice and tucked away.

Used a stock sidekick under dash fuse panel and moved and discarded all the pins besides 2 for now. One for a 30 amp to my rock lights, and one for a 15 amp for my stereo and CB (all on the same wire with a stock splice and Y.

I'll go into more detail if it ever gets cooler outside.
